Status of the 2020-2021 tobacco campaign

For the 2020-2021 tobacco campaign, the planting of more than 23,000 hectares of tobacco has been contracted, thereby involving 16,294 producers, their families and other forces.

At the end of March 18, of the total planned plantations, 23,489 hectares were achieved for 102%.

Stockpiles have already started, mainly with covered tobacco and Virginia.

Among the technologies that are applied are the inhibitor of children for covered tobacco; the generalization of the application of microelements and biofertilizers as nutrients, mainly in covered tobacco; the use of SPAD, a device that measures the amount of chlorophyll in the tobacco leaf to determine the maturity of the plant and whether it is optimal for harvesting. It works to increase drip irrigation and low pressure sprinkling. The production of seedlings in tunnels is increased, reaching 100% of the covered tobacco protected with this technology. Controlled cure levels are increased in covered tobacco and introduced into Virginia tobacco areas.

Among the main measures to counteract the drought and the negative effects of climate change is the strengthening and training of the structures that serve irrigation, relocation of areas where there are guarantees of water, introduction of efficient irrigation systems (drip and low sprinkling). pressure), replacement of conductors, construction and cleaning of wells and dams, as well as maintenance of canals and irrigation systems.
