The 2021-2022 Tobacco Campaign advances in Pinar del Rio.

As is traditional, the 2021-2022 tobacco agricultural campaign began throughout the country on October 10. In Pinar del Río, as in the rest of the territories, the planned schedule is met, which establishes the conclusion of the plantings during the month of January.

The complex economic situation the country is going through, which was affected by the economic blockade against Cuba and Covid-19, caused a deficit of fundamental resources such as fertilizers, fuels and other inputs to support this campaign, which determined a necessary decrease in production planned in this province in 2450 hectares.

Based on this exceptional situation, priority was given to the production of tobacco from the exclusive first-rate vegas of Pinar del Río, which, due to their quality, provide the raw material (layers, capes and casings) that guarantees the continuity of the production of twisted tobacco from export. And the sowing figures for types of tobacco such as vegas de Segunda and Sol en palo were readjusted, of which there are in inventory, sufficient availability of raw material that allows to maintain and increase the productions of the cigar industry and the twisted of national consumption.
